Non-Stop Music
An important part of the programming was non-stop music, both automated and played by real DJs.
During nightly hours, or when no disc jockey was available, music was broadcasted off of "the tape". This was a large tape recorder with reels. Each reel could contain many hours of music, and the tape recorder could repeat the recordings as often as necessary. But the tapes were rotated regularly and some volunteers regularly produced new tapes. Later the tapes were replaced by a stack of CD changers.
Disc jockeys took also a number of non-stop music hours for their accounts, mostly volunteers of which the abilities to speak on the radio weren't yet convincing. This sometimes lead to situations where the non-stop disc jockeys did in fact dare to speak on the radio.
To label these non-stop broadcasts with a proper name there were the following shows in existence:
- Non-Stop Energiek Muziek (Energic Music): daytime
- James: during lunch break
- Siesta: later in the afternoon
- Avondvaria (Evening Variety): in the evening hours
- Nachttrein (Night Train): 0h00-6h00 ("the Night Train rumbles on onto the morning")
- Dag-Dag (Bye, Day): starting 6h00 ("Bye, day, strolling to a new day")
Here are some jingles.
